Ramayana is undoubtedly the most popular and timeless Indian epic, read and loved by all. It has fascinated many generations, and had a profound impact on art and culture in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Sri Lanka, on this regard shares a special bond with India geographically, historically, culturally and spiritually – The Ramayana is one such link.

As an ardent Ramayana enthusiast, I decided taking the infamous Ramayana tour to Sri Lanka. An opportunity to follow this epic Ramayana Trail in Sri Lanka was just too irresistible. My travel partner, Ram Lanka Tours furnished me with a Ramayana Pilgrimage tour of 6 nights and 7 day. This tour included visitation to key sites associated with The Ramayana in Sri Lanka. Some of the key Sri Lankan sites are Laggala, a sentry point from where Rama’s army was first seen and reported to Ravana; Dunuwilla, from where Rama fired the Brahmasthram at Ravana and killed him; Divurumpola, where Sita underwent the Agnipariksha, and Muneeshwaram where Rama installed a Shivalingam to perform penance to wash away the sin of Brahmanhatya for killing Ravana who was a brahmin. Then there is a chain of hillocks — in a straight line from Jaffna to Hiripitiya — called Sanjeevani Drops; these are pieces of a section of the Dunagiri Mountain that Hanuman is said to have carried to Lanka.
This tour was not only religious but also an in depth education of the Ramayana and all the schools of thoughts of Hinduism. It is as an enlightening adventure for Hindus and education for non-Hindus.
